Few recipes are as simple, or as stunning as a homemade Alfredo Sauce. With most spaghetti sauces, a store-bought version can be an easy alternative to making the entire sauce from scratch. Add fresh ingredients, such as garlic, onion, green pepper, and the result is delicious. Alfredo Sauce is a different story. Store-bought varieties can never compare to a delicious homemade Alfredo. With just three basic ingredients, you will be amazed at how simple and effortless this is to create. The sauce can be made in roughly the time it takes to heat the water and boil the noodles. In less than half and hour you can have a stunning homemade meal.
So Simple, You Won’t Believe It!
In a small stove pot, melt 1/3 cup Butter. If I’m making a basic Fettuccini Alfredo, I usually start heating up a large pot of water for the noodles now. This recipe is delicious simply poured over noodles. You can also add a variety of other ingredients to make it a full meal. If you are including chicken, or veggies, start cooking them on the skillet now as well.
When the butter is melted, add in 1 ½ cups Heavy Whipping Cream. Keep this over a medium low setting, stirring frequently. You want it to simmer, so that the cream with thicken and reduce slightly, but cream can easily froth up and spill over the pot if left unattended. I let the cream simmer about 10 to 15 minutes, while the noodles are cooking. Add approximately 1 teaspoon Pepper and ½ teaspoon Salt. This can be adjusted to taste.
When you are ready for the sauce, turn off the heat and start to add 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese a little at a time. Use a whisk to help combine the cheese evenly as it melts. Don’t pour in too much at once, or the cheese may melt together in a blob at the bottom of the pan. If this happens simply continue to whisk until the cheese has melted and separated.
If you are including chicken, cooked shrimp, or veggies, mix these into the sauce now. Pour sauce over cooked and drained pasta noodles and serve immediately for a delicious homemade dinner. Looking to spice things up a bit? Try adding Mushrooms and Spinach or making a Spicy Cajun Alfredo.
